Renting a cheap car and driving it whenever you need to go provides a lot of freedom and convenience when traveling through the Balkans. You have the freedom to travel at your own pace, accompanied by your friends and family, make frequent stops to enjoy the scenery, and visit places that are not accessible by public transportation.
Especially when public infrastructure in the Balkan leaves much to be desired and the proposed solutions are quite far from reducing the environmental impact.
However, there are some things to know about renting a car in the Balkans, especially in Albania and at Tirana International Airport (Rinas). Knowing these differences in advance can save you a lot of money, provide you with the cheapest car price in the airport, and save a travel headache.

CHOOSING THE CHEAPEST AND SAFEST COMPANY
For many years now, the major rental car companies have offered cars to be rented, but now RENTOUT is the biggest platform online, offering many shared cars for the cheapest prices everywhere in Tirana (Albania), Pristina (Kosovo), Podgorica (Montenegro), and Skopje (North Macedonia).
Why the cheapest?
Because having a large number of registered cars on our platform will provide the visibility and transparency to such a market by lowering prices.
You can always book your rental car in advance but now you can even do it in person or ask Rentout Hosts to bring it to you. During the planning phase of the trip, you can check the rates from the major companies and then compare them with the RENTOUT platform for a better price.
It takes only 30 seconds to compare the prices out of five companies, but costs can vary widely depending on promotions and supply and demand, and it has been worth it to do this extra work in order to save money.
Finding the best deals and cheap cars in Albania is your objective?
FACTORS THAT AFFECT RENTAL CAR PRICES

There are the obvious factors that determine price, such as the duration of the rental period and the type and size of the vehicle, but there may also be some factors that you are not aware of.
AUTOMATIC vs. MANUAL
Manual vehicles are much more common in the Balkans than automatic vehicles. You can rent an automatic, but these cars can cost as much as 50% more than a manual vehicle.
PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF LOCATIONS
Sometimes it makes sense to pick up a car at one location and drop it off at a different location. Rentout app offers you that flexibility, but to get a cheaper car rental price, you do not need to pay the fee for a different pick-up and drop-off location. This platform has no hidden fees or extra fees, if you do not want extra services.
For example, if you are driving through southern Albania, you may pick up a car in Tirana International Airport (outside the airport borders), make a road trip through the Albania Riviera, and drop the car in the same location.
Even though, dropping the car off at a different location saves you a lot of time and unnecessary backtracking. However, there is a drop fee and this usually costs between €50 and €100.
When getting an estimate for different pick-up and drop-off locations, you have to decide if the extra money you will spend is worth the time and extra driving.
100 % COVERED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE BALKANS
Rentout has agreed to offer many insurance plans with the biggest insurance company in Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia. We got you covered and road support 24/7.
Your CAR RENTAL company online
Sure, it may be convenient to pick up a rental car at an airport, but this usually comes with an additional charge, as much as €25 to €150, depending on the country. To save money, consider renting from RENTOUT APP ONLINE; it will provide you a cheaper car from €10 to €25 a day.
That being said, renting at an airport does have several advantages; we suggest you do it online and get the car from our Hosts outside the airport borders. You will not be stuck waiting for a car or stuck with a car class you didn’t reserve. Finally, please do respect the turning location and hour to avoid extra fees from our Hosts.
YOU ARE NOW PERMITTED TO DRIVE INTO OTHER COUNTRIES
Some companies may forbid you from driving into specific countries. With the Rentout app, you can travel in Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro if our hosts allow it (most of them do).
YOUR ID AND DRIVERS PERMIT ARE VERIFIED ONLINE BY RENTOUT
RENTOUT facilitates the need for an International Driver Permit if you rent your car from us. By renting with us, you’ll have all the needed documents online to freely cross the border.
Other companies, this is not possible, you may need an International Driver Permit if you travel outside these countries. IDP translates your Driver’s License into 10 different languages. It contains your name, photograph, and driver information.
It is important to know that an IDP does not replace your Driver’s License or passport; it supplements your Driver’s License.
THE “INSURANCE GREEN CARD”
A green card, which is a cross-border insurance card that proves that your car has at least the minimum level of insurance required, is also offered online by Rentout for 15–40 euros, depending on which country you want to travel to. There is no need to wait in line anymore.
Most countries in the EU do not require you to have a green card. It’s required in just a handful of countries, including Bosnia & Herzegovina, Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro.
IS PARKING PAID ONLINE?
Confirm if your hotel, hostel, apartment, etc. offers parking, and if they do, what type of parking is available. Possible options include private parking on the hotel property, parking on the road next to the hotel, or parking in a nearby garage.
All of these have different factors to be considered, such as the cost, the hassle of finding a space, and the chance that you may need to parallel park.
Within June 2025 , you can reserve and pay online for your airport parking ticket or many other parking tickets through the Rentout platform and mobile application.
